VIRGIN GALACTIC
A NEW SPACE AGE
Virgin Galactic is a spaceflight company within the Virgin Group owned by Richard Branson. It is developing commercial spacecraft and aims to provide suborbital spaceflights to space tourists and suborbital launches for space science missions.
Virgin Galactic recognizes that the answers to many of the challenges we face in sustaining life on our beautiful but fragile planet, lie in making better use of space.
The revolutionary idea of Virgin Galactic is the unique construction of spaceships, which instead of taking off from the ground take off planes. This gives them a higher initial speed and a higher ceiling than take - offs from the Earth's surface.
From space, we are able to look with a new perspective both outward and back. From space, the borders that are fought over on Earth are arbitrary lines. From space it is clear that there is much more that unites than divides us.
Sending people to space has not only expanded our understanding of science, but taught us amazing things about human ingenuity, physiology and psychology.
We recognise that improving access to space is a fundamentally challenging ambition. We will achieve it only in a spirit of collaboration and with a recognition that we must continually learn and can always improve.
The first Virgin Galactic spaceship to enter service is VSS Unity. Built by The Spaceship Company, Unity and her sister spaceships will, for the first time, offer everyone the opportunity to become private astronauts and experience the wonder of space for themselves.
We are at the dawn of a golden age of space exploration which will transform our relationship with the Earth and with the cosmos.
